BALTIMORE, Md. July 15, 2010. Adler Display (adlerdisplay.com)—a national leader in visual communications through trade show and permanent displays—announced today the completion of a train-themed children's area at the Westminster branch of the Carroll County Public Library. The transformation of the children's area into a train-themed play environment was a part of a larger library renovation project initiated to engage young minds and educate children about Westminster history. The train-themed display includes a large train engine and a caboose that children can climb into with levers and games; a box car with computer stations; a water tower and tunnel which includes book shelves; and a clock tower representing an important historic element of downtown Westminster. The inspiration for the display came from the location of the children's area within the library, which overlooks the train track that crosses Main Street in downtown Westminster. The Western Maryland Railway, now operated by CSX Transportation, was primarily a coal hauling and freight railroad that brought goods to Baltimore harbor, and an important element to the prosperity of Westminster city. When the train comes through town, the children run to the window and climb onto the large window sill to watch. "We are very pleased with Adler's vision for the
project," stated Lynn Wheeler director of the Carroll County Public
Library. The elements in the design they created are sure to delight our
visitors. Adler Display has responded to our needs and kept the project
consistently The busy branch, which circulates over 800,000 items per year and sees about 300,000 visits per year, was in need of major renovation after 30 years of hard use. The train-themed children's area renovation was made possible by a Maryland State Library Capital Programs grant (administered by the Division of Library Development and Services, Maryland State Department of Education), with local matching funds approved by the Board of Commissioners for Carroll County. It is part of a three-year interior and exterior renovation project started in FY 08 (July 2007) and ending this summer. This Carroll County library project continues Adler
Display's long-standing tradition of creating, fun, crowd-pleasing
permanent displays. Other child-friendly displays created by Adler
Display include the Enchanted Forest in Ellicott City and Frontier Town
